Island 212 - Burnt Island, St Agnes, Isles of Scilly

Burnt Island is a small grass and rock covered tidal island located approximately 120 metres off the west coast of St Agnes at Periglis.  It is a relatively easy crossing to the island across a beach of small boulders at low tide or a couple of hours either side of it. It is approximately 150 metres long by 125 metres wide and is roughly circular in shape.  It is covered with thrift, which wasn't in flower when I visited in mid March 2014, and long grass, which had been flattened by all the gales we had the previous winter.

I don't know why it is called Burnt Island but where the recent storms had scoured away some of the vegetation, the exposed soil was black but presumably no different in colour to the soil on the adjacent island of St Agnes.

Burnt Island is unremarkable but does at the time of writing in 2014 have a geocache.
