Fort Les Homeaux Florains (so near but so far), Alderney, Channel Islands

Fort les Homeaux Florains is a ruined Victorian fort on a small tidal islet off the north coast of Alderney near Mannez Lighthouse.  However it isn't as easy to access as it looks as there is no man made causeway for even part of the route across.  This means picking your way across some seaweed covered rocks, followed by a 200 metre scramble across the rocks.  On balance I decided not to try it, as my scrambling skills are very limited.  I presume the fort was built in the 1850s.

I took this photo from the top of Mannez Lighthouse but had to take it through the window, as for health and safety reasons the public aren't allowed to go out on the balcony.
