Harper's Island is located to the west of Brown Island and is sandwiched between the mainland of County Cork to the north, Foaty Island to the south and Little Island to the west. It is bigger than Brown Island and is about 1km from north to south and 400 metres from east to west. It is a tidal island but it is most easily accessed via the N25 road into Cork from the east. However the road is a busy dual carriageway without any laybys and so it is not possible to stop on the island. The Cork to Cobh railway line runs down the west coast of the island and passes below the N25. There is another bridge to the island from the north but from what I can see on Google Street View there looks to be a locked gate at the mainland end.
Harper's Island is covered in grass with a few patches of trees. It is an important high tide roost for wading birds such as black-tailed godwits and redshanks.
